Welcome to the house on grace
The House on Grace is a family-focused organization services company.
We design systems that meet your family where you are today and grow with you into the future. Kids grow and their needs change. Your home needs to adapt, and you need a system that grows with them.
We design systems that are for the whole family, not just the primary organizer and tidier, because your home should work for every family member, and maintaining it should be a shared effort.
Why the House on Grace?
Well, for one, I quite literally used to live in the house on Grace (Street). Before moving to Nashville, my husband and I lived in Chicago and we owned a home on Grace Street. It was a sweet little worker’s cottage that was in desperate need of some TLC and we bought it thinking it would be our 20-year home where we would raise our eventual children.
But, a few years in, we moved to Nashville – a move that was a logistical and emotional challenge, but ultimately the best decision we could make for our family that would grow in Nashville.
Which is the second meaning of the house on grace, reminding me daily that things aren’t always going to go according to plan, whether it’s a multi-state move or a pile of toys you didn’t expect to take over your living room. It’s those times we have to give ourselves grace, treat ourselves with the kindness we’d show a friend, and let go of the expectation of perfection.
Our Commitment
We’ll design an organization system that works for your family, taking into account:
- Your and your partner’s habits & organizational style
- Your kid’s ages
- The time you can spend maintaining the system long term
Laura, Owner & Principal
Hi, I’m Laura, the owner of The House on Grace.
I’m a mom of two and a list maker by nature. Virgo. Enneagram 1. I like order and am easily overwhelmed by clutter. I spent over a decade in a career in project management before staying home full-time with my kids when they were young.
Before I had kids, I swore I wouldn’t let kids’ stuff take over my house. And then I had kids.
I realized kids have a lot of stuff, and they grow out of it quickly. Some of it is necessary (clothing, appropriate outerwear, books) and some of it just brings them joy (my son loves and forms a deep attachment to every party-favor-Happy-Meal-type trinket he has ever received).
I also realized that kids don’t want to be tucked away in a playroom. They want to be where the action is, and in the case of young kids, they have to be near you for safety. That means near the kitchen, living room, or wherever you spend most of your time. I realized I needed to make our home work for everyone in the family. It is, after all, a family home.
I believe an orderly environment brings calm and helps both children and adults thrive. I believe in purposeful design and that a home should work for the family that lives there, not an Instagram feed. I believe you can have kids and a beautiful, tidy home. Some days it may be more chaotic than others, but with a little grace for yourself and systems that work for your family, you can have both.
